Kick Off the School Year with Healthy Habits on the trails!

As summer winds down and the back-to-school season begins, it is the perfect time to establish new routines that benefit both mind and body. At Warrick Trails, we believe that staying active is a key part of a successful school year—whether you are a student, parent, or community member.

Why Incorporate Trails into Your Routine?

  • For Students: Research consistently shows that regular physical activity is linked to improved cognitive function, better memory, and enhanced concentration—key ingredients for academic success. By starting or ending the school day with a brisk walk, a refreshing run, or an energizing bike ride on the trails, students can experience a boost in focus that carries over into the classroom. Beyond the physical benefits, spending time in nature has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, helping students manage the pressures of homework, tests, and social interactions. Whether it's a solo ride to reflect and recharge or a fun walk with friends, using the trails can be a powerful tool in building a balanced, healthy lifestyle that supports both mental and academic growth.

  • For Parents: The back-to-school season often brings a whirlwind of activities, from drop-offs and pick-ups to after-school programs and sports practices. Finding time to connect with your children amidst the hustle and bustle can be challenging, but incorporating a walk or bike ride on the trails into your routine offers the perfect solution. Not only does it foster healthy habits, but it also provides a dedicated space to talk, laugh, and bond with your kids away from the distractions of screens and schedules. Whether it's a morning walk to start the day on a positive note or an evening bike ride to unwind, these moments on the trails can become cherished family traditions that strengthen your relationship and promote overall well-being. Plus, by modeling an active lifestyle, you're setting a positive example for your children that they can carry with them for life.

  • For Everyone: The asphalt trails offer a safe, accessible space for people of all ages to enjoy the outdoors. Whether you are training for a 5k or just looking to get some fresh air, the Warrick Trails network has something for you.

Discover the New 1-Mile Trail to Amax Fields

This August, we are excited to highlight the newest addition to our trail network: a 1-mile asphalt trail that extends off the ONB Loop and connects to Amax.  This trail was thanks to a Next Level Trails Grant we received to allow connections to more parks, fields and neighborhoods.  At the end of the 1-mile trail, Warrick Trails re-modeled the Amax building to make it the Nevins Trailhead at Amax Fields. The trail is a fantastic spot for walking, running, and biking, offering a smooth and scenic route perfect for morning exercise before the school day begins or a relaxing ride in the evening.

As you prepare for the school year ahead, consider how you can integrate the trails into your daily routine. Whether it's a morning walk to start the day, an afternoon bike ride to unwind, or a weekend run to stay fit, the trails are here to support your journey to better health.

We invite you to explore all of our trails and make it a part of your back-to-school routine. Warrick Trails is committed to building and maintaining trails that enhance our community’s health and well-being, and we can’t wait to see you out there, enjoying all that these trails have to offer.

Here's to a healthy, active, and successful school year ahead!
